Ukraine's Defense Industry: Building a Powerful Military Force in Four Years
Ukrainian President's Address
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated workers of the defense-industrial complex on their professional holiday, highlighting the sector's remarkable progress over the last four years. This annual observance, known as the Day of the Worker of the Defense-Industrial Complex, is celebrated every April 13th, having been established by a presidential decree in 2023.
Accomplishments of Ukrainian Arms Makers
In his address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy focused on the achievements of Ukrainian arms manufacturers, stating:
“Our missiles, unmanned systems, our interceptors, strike and maritime drones and reconnaissance units, artillery, ammunition, armored vehicles, robotic complexes, and much more. All of this is what can now rightfully be called Ukrainian weaponry. This is what strength looks like, forged in battle, pain, and fire. This is what protection, the desire for freedom and justice, looks like. This is what quality and precision, perfection and long-range capability, look like. And this is what independence looks like. The tools to defend it. The arguments to win your own peace.”
The head of state also expressed gratitude to everyone working in the defense-industrial complex, noting:
“Today is the professional day of those who multiply this strength of ours. Our Ukrainian arms makers – all workers of Ukraine's defense-industrial complex. In four years, Ukraine has built a new defense industry. One that is large-scale, effective, and impressive in every sense.”
He emphasized the importance of every worker, including engineers, designers, enterprise laborers, and scientists, who contribute to strengthening the country's defense capabilities.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded his speech with the words: “Glory to our arms makers, glory to our defense! Thank you to everyone who helps! Glory to Ukraine!”
The president's speech underscores the critical importance of the defense-industrial complex for Ukraine, particularly given the current challenges and threats. This sector's development is a direct response to the ongoing war, which has necessitated a rapid and unprecedented military-industrial expansion. The growth of investments and technologies in this field contributes to bolstering national security and independence.
Marking this professional holiday also serves to boost the morale of the sector's workers and society as a whole.
As Ukraine continues to advance its defense capabilities, the ongoing conflict has seen significant losses for the opposing forces. Notably, recent reports indicate that Ukraine's Security Service has destroyed over 2000 Russian tanks in just two years of warfare. This impressive achievement underscores the effectiveness of the nation’s military strategies and the critical role played by the defense-industrial complex in bolstering Ukraine's strength on the battlefield.
