Zelenskyy Outlines Conditions for Ending the War

According to Главком: In an interview with The Atlantic, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed his stance on the conditions for ending the war and potential diplomatic negotiations with Russia. He firmly stated that sending a Ukrainian delegation to Moscow for direct talks with Vladimir Putin is impossible. This declaration was a direct response to a suggestion from Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, who had urged Zelenskyy to come to Moscow.

“It is absolutely impossible for me to meet with Putin in Moscow. That would be the same as meeting with Putin in Kyiv.”

Zelenskyy added that he would instead invite Vladimir Putin to come to Kyiv, emphasizing that this is a public invitation contingent on the Russian president's willingness. This stance reflects the deep-seated tensions and the challenge of finding neutral ground for diplomacy between the two nations.

The State of Ukraine-Russia Relations

The full-scale war between Ukraine and Russia has now persisted for nearly four years. Zelenskyy's position highlights the complexity of the situation and Ukraine's desire for diplomatic solutions, while simultaneously underscoring the refusal to hold meetings on the aggressor's territory.

Zelenskyy's statement demonstrates Ukraine's clear negotiating position with Russia, emphasizing the unacceptability of meeting on the soil of the aggressor state. It also reflects a drive to establish conditions for a peaceful resolution of the conflict that align with Ukraine's national interests. A readiness for dialogue remains a crucial part of the diplomatic process, but only under terms that account for the country's security and sovereignty.
