Zelensky on plans after the war: ready to resign under the condition of peace
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with AXIOS that he is ready to resign after the war in Ukraine is over. 'My goal is to end the war, not to continue running for office,' he emphasized.
Zelensky also promised to address the Ukrainian parliament with a request to organize elections in the event of a ceasefire. He sees this as an opportunity to achieve long-term peace, although he acknowledges that there are challenges related to security and the Constitution.
Zelensky emphasized that elections could take place during a ceasefire, allowing for the selection of 'a leader with a new mandate' to make important decisions. He expressed hope that a path to peace will be found, stressing the importance of security for conducting elections.
'During a ceasefire, I believe that security can allow elections to take place. It is possible,' Zelensky noted.
Thus, Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed his readiness to leave the presidency after the war in Ukraine is over, hoping for elections during a ceasefire to choose new leaders with a mandate for peacekeeping actions.
