Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Meets with US Officials

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held talks with US representatives concerning security guarantees for Ukraine. The closed-door meeting, attended by Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief and US officials including Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, Lindsey Graham, and Mark Rutte, covered topics such as military financing, the acquisition of air defense systems, and the format for future meetings and exchanges. These discussions come at a critical time as Ukraine seeks to solidify its defensive posture.

During the negotiations, Zelenskyy emphasized the crucial need for Ukraine to have a clear understanding of any security guarantees.

"Ukraine must have a clear understanding of security guarantees in any case. Everything must be outlined so that Ukrainians understand them. This is very important. We do not know if we will get what we agreed upon, but the agreement is this: in the coming days, Ukraine will incorporate into the drafted document responses to the questions we have regarding these security guarantees,"

the president stated. He further highlighted that Ukraine maintains an 800,000-strong army and raised the question of how it will be financed beyond the Ukrainian budget.

Addressing the Threat of Russian Aggression

A central focus of the talks was addressing threats of Russian aggression. Zelenskyy gave an example, noting that 'the threat of Russian aerial bombs can be pushed back by 200 kilometers.' He proposed to the American side that they jointly consider organizing meetings with all parties involved to discuss security issues.

"The American group can come to us, and after us, go to Moscow. If a three-way meeting isn't possible, let's do it sequentially. That is our proposal. I have heard positive signals from our partners regarding such a proposal,"

Zelenskyy added. This diplomatic outreach underscores Ukraine's proactive efforts to manage regional tensions.

In conclusion, the president announced a video conference scheduled for April 1st, which will involve Witkoff and Kushner, with Lindsey Graham and Mark Rutte also joining. This highlights the continuation of Ukraine's active efforts to strengthen its security and cooperation with international partners.

These negotiations signal an intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts in the context of threats from Russia. The involvement of high-ranking US officials underscores the importance of international support for ensuring Ukraine's security. Engagement with American partners, particularly through the format of upcoming meetings, could become a key element in the country's strategic defense planning as it faces significant challenges.
