Details of Ukraine-Russia Talks

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed the details of Vladimir Putin's strategy during negotiations with Donald Trump. Zelenskyy highlighted a shift in the Russian delegation's rhetoric during the second round of talks, which took place in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5. According to Zelenskyy, a direct conversation occurred between the parties, in which Putin reportedly stated:

“Give me all of Donbas – and I will end the war.” – Vladimir Putin

Zelenskyy noted that the volume of information exchanged during the negotiations allowed for an analysis of the main topics discussed, particularly the issue of Donbas. He said the Russian delegation arrived with new proposals, including one for a free economic zone, which had not been discussed before. “They mentioned a free economic zone, which they had not spoken of previously. Perhaps we should consider complex issues at a trilateral meeting,” the president added. These talks represent a critical diplomatic effort to resolve the long-standing conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also emphasized that the Russian side was prepared to discuss topics it had previously avoided. “Judging by what my team told me – they spoke about this topic, how it could be. It means the Russians are, in principle, ready to discuss it,” he stated. These changes in rhetoric may signal new approaches to the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia.

Potential Consequences of the Negotiations

President Zelenskyy's statements underscore potential shifts in the dynamics of the Ukraine-Russia talks, which could indicate the Russian side's intent to find new solutions for settling the Donbas conflict. In particular, the issue of a free economic zone might open new avenues for economic cooperation, although significant political and social challenges that require attention remain. The international community is closely monitoring these developments for signs of a genuine breakthrough.

  • New initiatives could influence the future course of the negotiation process.
  • Stability in the region remains an issue requiring resolution.
