Reformatting of Power in Ukraine

According to Главком: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has initiated a major reformatting of power, which includes the dismissal of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk, and the appointment of new leaders in key departments. These changes are aimed at combating corruption, stabilizing relations with the USA, and adapting to the prolonged war.

Vasyl Maliuk, who held the position of head of SBU, was dismissed on January 5. Yevhenii Khmara has been appointed as the interim head of SBU. As part of the reformatting of power, new appointments have also taken place:

  • Kyrylo Budanov has become the new head of the President's Office;
  • Mykhailo Fedorov, 34 years old, has taken the position of Minister of Defense;
  • Denys Shmyhal has been appointed as the new Minister of Energy;
  • Dmytro Kuleba has returned to the government team.

Prominent figures in the new government include Chrystia Freeland, who will serve as economic advisor, and Oksana Markarova, who has become the coordinator for reconstruction and investment. These appointments, particularly the female team aimed at strengthening the economy, highlight the desire for development and stability amid war and economic challenges.

These changes in the Ukrainian government occur against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict with Russia and global economic challenges faced by Ukraine. The new appointments indicate President Zelensky's intent to adapt state policy to current realities, focusing on anti-corruption reforms and attracting international support. The role of women in the new appointments may also indicate the government's attempts to strengthen social justice and ensure a wider range of opinions in the decision-making process.

The changes in the government under President Zelensky will undoubtedly be an important step towards achieving these goals.
