Ukrainian President Meets with Dutch Prime Minister

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the new Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, in Kyiv on March 8, 2026. The talks focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly regarding defense assistance and collaborative weapons manufacturing. This meeting underscores the Netherlands' continued role as a key European ally for Ukraine. Following the discussions, the leaders issued a joint statement.

As part of its support package, the Netherlands has committed to providing Ukraine with 3 billion euros annually. President Zelenskyy stated:

“We need stable support every single day, and the Netherlands is setting that exact example – 3 billion euros every year.”

The President also noted Dutch investment in the PURL program, which is critical for procuring air defense missiles.

Battlefield Situation and Future Cooperation

Furthermore, Zelenskyy briefed the Prime Minister on the situation at the front and the relentless daily Russian attacks.

“I informed the Prime Minister about the situation on the battlefield, about the Russian attacks, which do not stop for a single day. We need stable, resilient support every day for as long as this war continues,”

the President emphasized. He stressed the importance of advancing joint weapons production plans discussed during the meeting.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for the Netherlands' comprehensive support:

“The Netherlands has supported us from the first days of this war and in many dimensions. This includes defense support, assistance for our energy sector, backing for sanctions against Russia, and political support for Ukraine.”

After concluding their talks, the leaders visited Kyiv's Memorial Wall, honoring those who have died in the war. The continuation of cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands in defense and other areas appears promising, as indicated by the signed joint statement.

The meeting between Zelenskyy and Jetten highlights the vital importance of sustained international backing for Ukraine. As a key partner, the Netherlands continues its active support not only financially but also militarily, which remains critically important under current conditions. The concluding joint statement signals both nations' intent to deepen their collaboration in the near future.
