Marco Rubio Meets with Volodymyr Zelenskyy

According to ХВИЛЯ: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Their discussion focused on Ukraine's security, bilateral partnership, and the pursuit of a peaceful settlement. This high-level diplomatic engagement took place just before critical negotiations are set to begin in Geneva on Tuesday.

Zelenskyy also held talks with members of U.S. President Donald Trump's team, including Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Zelenskyy noted that the United States has set a deadline for a peace agreement to be reached between Kyiv and Moscow by June.

The Push for a Peaceful Settlement

Secretary Rubio stressed the importance of achieving a peaceful resolution, stating that

"President Trump wants a solution that will end the bloodshed once and for all,"

according to his remarks. Zelenskyy emphasized that not everything can be discussed over the phone, adding that 'our negotiating team will present Ukraine's position next week.' He expressed gratitude to the U.S. for its constructive approach and willingness to assist in protecting lives, saying:

"I thank President Trump, his team, and the American people for their support."

The meeting between Rubio and Zelenskyy underscores active U.S. diplomatic efforts concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the pressing need for a peaceful settlement. The establishment of a June deadline for a deal with Moscow may signal Washington's desire to accelerate the peace negotiation process. This engagement reflects the continued U.S. commitment to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to ensure security and stability in the region, a policy that has been a consistent feature of the transatlantic relationship for years.
