President Zelensky Holds Key Talks in Brussels

According to Рубрика — Політика: On October 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Brussels. The discussions centered on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, countering Russian strikes on critical infrastructure, and securing continued support from European allies.

During the talks, Zelensky announced that new aviation reinforcement packages would be delivered this month. He also emphasized the urgent need to accelerate the deployment of the European anti-ballistic missile system FREYJA by the end of the year.

“New aviation support packages are expected this month. We are also speeding up efforts to have FREYJA operational by year-end,” Zelensky stated.

Expressing gratitude to France for granting weapons production licenses, Zelensky highlighted the timing of a Russian drone strike on Lutsk’s energy infrastructure during his meeting with Macron, which caused a citywide blackout.

“Russia blatantly ignored the American President’s call to halt attacks on energy systems. It is exploiting issues with Starlink to maximize destruction of vital civilian services,” Zelensky said.

European Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reassured Ukraine of unwavering support, declaring:

“Following today’s discussions with European leaders in Brussels, I want to assure you, dear Ukrainian friends, and President Zelensky: you are not alone.”

He further stressed the importance of sanctions against Russia and the deep friendship between Poland and Ukraine.

“We are more than neighbors; we are friends who can rely on each other during difficult times. Nothing will ever change that,” Tusk affirmed.

In his meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Zelensky focused on Russian attacks, bolstering the protection of Ukraine’s infrastructure, and securing financial aid. He underscored that air defense, including anti-ballistic systems and interceptors for rocket drones like the Shahed, remains the top defense priority.

Addressing Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Zelensky raised the need for additional F-16 fighter jets and ammunition shipments, highlighting the critical importance of strengthening Ukraine’s defenses against Russian aggression. He warned that Russia has interpreted signals about potential easing of sanctions as a green light to continue targeting civilian and critical infrastructure.

“Russia clearly views any signal of sanction relief as permission to keep attacking homes, power substations, and all infrastructure sustaining normal life,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky also met with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte to discuss ongoing military assistance, including the supply of ballistic missile interceptors and F-16 munitions. These Brussels talks underscored the vital role of European solidarity in supporting Ukraine amid ongoing military challenges.

This round of diplomacy in Brussels marks another significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to enhance its defense capabilities and secure backing from European partners. As military threats from Russia intensify, strengthening air defense and protecting critical infrastructure have become paramount. The outcomes of these meetings are expected to influence future military and political strategies both within Ukraine and across Europe.

In addition to air defense enhancements, President Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk are also collaborating on crucial preparations for the upcoming winter energy challenges. Their discussions highlight the importance of a united front in the face of Russian aggression.
