Ukraine's President Directly Acknowledges Drone Strike on Moscow as a Retaliatory Move for the First Time
Ukraine Claims Responsibility for Drone Attack
According to ХВИЛЯ: For the first time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explicitly stated that a nighttime drone strike on Moscow was carried out as retaliation by Ukraine. He noted that the unmanned aircraft managed to reach the Russian capital despite its three-tiered air defense system. Notably, Zelenskyy was speaking with reporters at the very moment Russia launched an attack on the Lavra monastery.
Zelenskyy's Statements and International Backing
The Ukrainian leader also emphasized that Kyiv's allies are confident in the country's ability to help bring the war to a close. In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been evasive regarding any potential ceasefire.
“There is only one person waging this war - Putin - but it is the people who are paying the price,” Zelenskyy stated.
He announced upcoming meetings in Brussels and the next session of the Ramstein format, where new aid packages for Ukraine will be discussed.
Kyiv is counting on receiving fresh support in the form of air defense systems, Patriot batteries, and anti-ballistic missiles. Around 9 to 11 countries are expected to back these initiatives. Additionally, Ukraine is advocating for the creation of a European anti-ballistic missile system.
Zelenskyy underscored the need to pressure Moscow, warning:
“If Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn too.”
- Sanctions on the energy sector
- Sanctions on the shadow fleet
- Sanctions on oil and gas
- Sanctions on banks and the defense industry
This statement from Ukraine's president highlights the escalating tensions in the conflict and Kyiv's readiness to respond to Moscow's actions. The strengthening of military assistance from Western partners, along with new sanctions initiatives, could prove decisive in shaping the course of events. Clearly, both sides continue to pursue their strategic objectives, which may lead to further deterioration of the situation in the region.
In light of the ongoing military developments, Zelenskyy's recent remarks underscore the urgent need for strategic safeguards.
