Zelensky awarded state awards to veterans-winners of the Invictus Games

According to Главком: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Ukrainian veterans and veteran women, winners and participants of the Invictus Games, and awarded them state awards. This event took place against the backdrop of recognizing their courage and contributions to the defense of the country's independence.
The veterans received orders of 'For Merit' of the III degree and 'For Courage' of the III degree for their contribution to sports achievements and heroism. They competed in various disciplines during the Invictus Games held in Düsseldorf in 2023, and plans are underway for Vancouver and Whistler in 2025. Among the sports in which veterans participated were:
- cycling
- snowboarding
- running
- swimming
- sitting skiing and mountain skiing
- rowing on simulators
- shot put
- discus throw
- biathlon for visually impaired individuals
- UNQ basketball
The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of veterans' contributions to the struggle for independence, stating:
“A nation begins with the unconquered.”
He also highlighted the great respect that Ukraine pays to all who defended the country's independence at the cost of their health and lives, noting the significance of their achievements and heroism. We remind you that among those killed while performing combat duties was Taras Shpuk, a renowned coach and athlete, whose memory was also honored.
This meeting underscores the importance of supporting veterans and their contributions not only in sports but also in the defense of the country. The Invictus Games, which unite veterans from all over the world, serve as a platform to demonstrate their heroism and strength of spirit. Recognizing their achievements on the international stage helps raise awareness of veterans' issues and the need for their rehabilitation after service.
