For drone takedowns and rescuing wounded comrades: combat medics awarded state honors by President Zelenskyy
According to МВС: On the eve of Ukraine's Medical Worker's Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented state decorations to military medics and also recognized families of those killed in action. Among the honorees were three combat medics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs system who demonstrated exceptional bravery under extreme conditions. The following individuals received the Order for Courage, Third Class:
- Hlib Ovoshchnikov, a driver-sanitary worker with the Azov brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, was cited for evacuating a severely wounded comrade while shooting down two enemy FPV drones.
- Andriy Velykorodnyi, a paramedic with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, received the same award.
- Serhiy Usov, a paramedic with the State Emergency Service of Donetsk region, was also recognized. Following an airstrike on Kostiantynivka, he and his colleagues worked continuously for days to clear rubble.
In his remarks, President Zelenskyy underscored the critical role of medical personnel, stating,
“You work every day in the places where help is most needed and most urgent.”
He highlighted the importance of stabilization points, frontline hospitals, operating rooms, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, and emergency services-asserting that without them, civilization and civility could not exist in Ukraine.
Recognition of medical workers’ contribution
This event served as a significant acknowledgment of the life-saving efforts of healthcare professionals during combat and wartime conditions. Honoring those who risk their own lives to provide care underscores their tireless dedication and the vital role of medical services in national security.
