President Honors Oleksandr Olifirenko with Hero of Ukraine Award
According to МВС: On Border Guard Day, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the Gold Star Order of the Hero of Ukraine to Master Sergeant Oleksandr Olifirenko. A reconnaissance soldier with the Silver Three unit of the Pomsta brigade of the State Border Guard Service, Olifirenko distinguished himself during service along the border with Belarus and in combat operations in Donetsk region. This recognition highlights the bravery of Ukrainian forces amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
Olifirenko’s Combat Record and Sacrifice
Olifirenko, who goes by the call sign ‘Killer,’ volunteered for combat duty in 2018 and spent three years participating in the Joint Forces Operation. One of his toughest battles took place in Bilohorivka in the spring of 2024, where he sustained a severe wound.
While on a mission in the Serebryansky forest, Olifirenko organized the evacuation of 23 wounded personnel despite relentless enemy fire. His group was nearly surrounded but managed to extract all casualties from the combat zone within two days.
In the village of Topoli in Kharkiv region, Olifirenko continued carrying out combat tasks while carrying 18 shrapnel fragments in his body and suffering lung damage from a chemical grenade. Today, he serves as an instructor training newly mobilized soldiers. Olifirenko remarked:
“Becoming a soldier was a dream. I pursued that goal from the age of 7.”
His courage and selflessness have set an example for others.
Bestowing the Gold Star Order of the Hero of Ukraine on Olifirenko marks a significant step in recognizing the valor and dedication of troops defending the country under fire. His experience and bravery, especially in critical situations, underscore the high professionalism of Ukrainian servicemen.
