Shifts in the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reshuffled the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, appointing Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and Oleksandr Zavitnevych-head of the Verkhovna Rada's committee on national security, defense, and intelligence-as new members. These updates were formalized through Presidential Decree No. 445/2026.

The last adjustment to the Staff occurred in January of this year, when former Security Service head Vasyl Maliuk was removed. Current members also include:

  • Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov
  • First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal

Context Behind the Changes

These changes come amid intelligence reports indicating that Russia is preparing a new large-scale strike. President Zelensky has warned citizens about potential dangers that could arise from this situation. The inclusion of senior economic and legislative figures highlights a strategic push to align financial resources and oversight with military planning.

The restructuring of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff signals an intensification of military operations and the need to adapt leadership to emerging challenges. Bringing in the finance minister and the national security committee chair suggests a deeper integration of economic and defense strategies-a critical step given the ongoing threat from Russia. This move may unlock new avenues for coordinating resources in response to the escalating conflict.
