Ukraine's Film Output Insufficient to Counter Russian Influence, Zelenskyy Warns

The Tysiachovesna Initiative

The Tysiachovesna program, initiated by the Ukrainian president, aims to support and fund national cinema, theater, music, literature, and audiovisual projects. Submissions were accepted across seven categories:

• Animated films
• Audiovisual shows and series
• Theatrical arts
• Musical arts
• Book publishing

More than 2,600 applications were received, with 120 independent experts conducting the selection process. The final winners will be determined through open public pitch sessions.

Zelenskyy stressed the role of cultural diplomacy, remarking that

“it is offensive that lives must be lost for the world to pay attention to our nation.”

He also underscored the value of Ukrainian creators documenting the war, noting that this body of work is unique because it centers on people and their values. The president expressed concern over the lack of platforms to showcase talented exhibitions and cultural projects on the global stage.
