Zelensky Reports Over 200 Drones and Aerial Bombs in a Single Night
Massive Overnight Assault by Russia
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that Russia launched a large-scale nighttime attack, deploying more than 200 attack drones and dropping over 80 aerial bombs. This offensive struck energy infrastructure, residential buildings, a kindergarten, and a civilian locomotive on railway tracks, resulting in casualties and fatalities. Zelensky urged the international community to tighten sanctions against Russia and respond symmetrically to the aggression.
During the night, Russian forces carried out extensive strikes, with over 30 aviation attacks recorded. Defensive forces intercepted drones across several regions:
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Zhytomyr
- Mykolaiv
- Sumy
- Kharkiv
- Chernihiv
- Kyiv and its surrounding area
In Kyiv, drone debris fell on the roof of a 16-story building in the Obolon district, triggering a fire. Overnight, settlements in the Kyiv region were also targeted, damaging homes and educational facilities.
On the evening of May 11, a hostile drone struck the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, hitting the roof of an apartment building. Additionally, Russian forces attacked Dnipro, damaging transport infrastructure and causing a fire.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated: 'Russia chose to break the partial calm that had held for several days. This night, they launched over 200 attack drones at Ukraine. Again, aerial bombs appeared on the front line-more than 80 were used, with over 30 aviation strikes recorded.'
The president also emphasized the need for sustained sanctions: 'We have said we will act symmetrically in response to every Russian step. Russia must end this war, and it is Russia that must take the step toward a real, lasting ceasefire.'
Zelensky called on international partners not to stand aside and to continue working together for security and justice.
Escalation of the Conflict
This attack ranks among the largest in recent months, underscoring an escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Zelensky’s appeal to global allies highlights the critical need for continued support as aggression mounts. Notably, Ukrainian forces persist in countering these assaults, demonstrating resilience and a firm commitment to defending their territory. The response to this aggression could shape the trajectory of the regional situation and international relations, particularly regarding sanctions against Russia.
The recent surge in aerial assaults highlights a troubling pattern, reminiscent of the massive drone attacks earlier this March, which also resulted in significant casualties across various Ukrainian cities. This escalation underlines the urgent need for enhanced international support and strategic responses to safeguard Ukraine's infrastructure and civilian lives.
