Ukraine Overhauls Its Air Defense Strategy

According to ХВИЛЯ: In a move to modernize Ukraine's air defense systems, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Pavlo Yelizarov as the new Deputy Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This appointment is part of a broader strategy to upgrade short-range air defense capabilities in response to escalating threats from Russia.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov observed that the modern world was unprepared for a war of this nature. He stated, however, that Ukraine is compelled to respond to these challenges swiftly, systematically, and with technological innovation. Pavlo Yelizarov brings a proven track record, having been credited with the destruction of enemy equipment valued at over $13 billion, underscoring his expertise and readiness for the task ahead.

Additional Payments for Critical Workers

President Zelenskyy also emphasized the urgent need to implement extra monthly payments for energy workers and repair crews operating in hazardous conditions.

"There must be additional monthly payments under these emergency circumstances for every month worked by our people who are on the front lines, dealing directly with the aftermath of strikes,"

the president stressed. This conflict has uniquely targeted civilian infrastructure, making these roles exceptionally dangerous.

The frontline situation remains severe, with Russia having launched up to 100,000 'Shahed' drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine in 2025 alone, highlighting the persistent scale of the aerial threat. Against this backdrop, Zelenskyy vowed:

"We will find every Russian murderer, and each one will be held accountable."

Consequently, the leadership change in the Air Force command and the new measures for air defense reflect Ukraine's determination to adapt to contemporary security challenges. These steps underscore the gravity of the threats Ukraine faces and the necessity of refining military strategies in response to Russian aggression.

Such reforms are critical for enhancing defensive operations and bolstering the morale of both military personnel and civilians, as ensuring security is the paramount priority under current conditions. The state's commitment to supporting energy and repair workers further highlights its obligation to protect those on the front lines of mitigating the war's consequences.
