The discussions centered on preparations for the upcoming G7 summit, Moscow's current stance, and potential paths toward a diplomatic resolution to the war. This encounter occurred during a transit stop in the Moldovan capital and marked the first direct contact between the Ukrainian leader and Trump's envoys following a series of meetings with Vladimir Putin.

Core Agenda of the Talks

The participants-Zelensky, Witkoff, and Kushner-focused on the G7 summit, scheduled for late June in Évian-les-Bains, France. Witkoff and Kushner gave a positive assessment of Ukraine's position and stressed the urgency of ending the war. They also expressed respect for the Ukrainian people, signaling continued support from the Trump administration.

Zelensky stated: 'I am grateful for the readiness to work as actively as possible in the coming weeks to give diplomacy a push toward ending Russia's war against Ukraine. We understand how much global attention is drawn to the situation around Iran. But our shared goal of peace in Europe remains on the agenda.'

The Chisinau meeting marked a significant step toward direct dialogue between Kyiv and the U.S. team. Both Kyrylo Budanov and Zelensky confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner plan to visit Kyiv. Earlier, in March 2026, Ukrainian and American delegations-including Witkoff, Kushner, and senior White House advisers-held negotiations in Florida. In April, Budanov reported that Kushner and Witkoff were preparing for a trip to Ukraine.
