On June 15, Ukraine enters a new phase of negotiations for EU membership. This concerns the opening of the first negotiation cluster, which pertains to democracy, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption. People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak called this step one of the most important in the entire period of the country's Euro-integration.

The opening of the cluster with the EU launches a new stage of reforms

According to Zheleznyak, after the opening of the negotiation cluster, Ukraine's further progress towards EU membership will depend primarily on the implementation of internal reforms.

The first cluster covers issues of democracy, judicial independence, the functioning of anti-corruption agencies, and the rule of law. These areas are considered fundamental for further negotiations on joining the European Union.

The deputy emphasized that the opening of the cluster is the result of many years of work and an important signal for Ukraine, which strives to integrate into the European space.

The EU has tied financial assistance to the implementation of reforms

Zheleznyak paid special attention to the fact that financial support from the European Union increasingly depends on the implementation of reforms.

According to him, part of the requirements relates to economic and fiscal policy, while another part is directly linked to the fight against corruption, reforming the law enforcement system, and the judiciary.

Among the key tasks for the near future, he named improving the functioning of anti-corruption agencies, changes to criminal procedural legislation, and reforming the State Bureau of Investigation.

DBR reform has become one of the conditions for Euro-integration

According to the deputy, the updated reform plan includes completing the DBR reform by the end of 2026. This issue is also included in the list of Ukraine's obligations within the framework of the negotiation process with the EU.

Zheleznyak stated that together with colleagues and representatives of anti-corruption organizations, he plans to promote legislative initiatives necessary to meet European requirements.

In his opinion, the opening of the negotiation cluster provides Ukraine with additional arguments to implement long-awaited reforms and strengthens the control over their implementation by international partners.

Previously, Zheleznyak summarized the plenary week of the Verkhovna Rada.
