Ukraine, US, and Russia Hold Talks in Geneva

According to Главком: Trilateral consultations involving Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian Federation are ongoing in Geneva. These discussions are addressing both political and military matters, with participants working to clarify the specifics of potential agreements. The core issue, however, remains the territorial question, particularly the 'land issue,' which has become a major point of contention between the parties. These talks are part of a long-standing diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

Negotiations Continue into Second Day

The second day of talks commenced on February 18, following the conclusion of the first day on February 17. Consultations are proceeding in specialized working groups, with participants expressing a focus on substantive work. As reported by Rustem Umerov,

"We are working on clarifying the parameters and mechanics of the solutions discussed yesterday. We are focused on substantive work. We will provide additional information on the outcomes later."

Moscow is demanding the official cession of territories, while U.S. President Donald Trump is pressing Kyiv for 'quick decisions.' However, according to the Associated Press, expectations for a breakthrough in this new round of negotiations remain low. The parties arrived in Geneva without showing any significant readiness to alter their core positions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the change in leadership of the Russian delegation could further complicate the negotiation process.

The Geneva negotiations represent a critical stage in the search for a resolution to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has now persisted for several years. The complexity of the topics under discussion, especially the territorial issue, underscores the profound differences in the participants' stances. Despite efforts from both sides, political tension remains high, which could impact any future steps toward resolving the conflict.
