Winter Olympics 2026: when the opening takes place and where to watch

From February 6 to 22, the XXV Winter Olympic Games will take place in Italy. The competitions will be held simultaneously in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. More than three thousand athletes will participate in the Olympics, competing for 116 sets of medals in 16 sports. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine.

For Ukrainian fans, extended television and online coverage of the Games have been prepared. The official broadcaster of the Winter Olympics-2026 in Ukraine is Public Broadcasting, which plans hundreds of hours of live broadcasts, analytics, and special projects.

Winter Olympics 2026: where to watch broadcasts in Ukraine

Live broadcasts of the competitions will be available for free on the Public Broadcasting platforms. Specifically, the broadcasts can be viewed:

• on the Public Sport TV channel;

• on regional Public channels;

• on the Public Sport website;

• on the Public Sport YouTube channel (selected events).

The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the evening summary studios, will be broadcasted by the First Channel. A total of at least 125 hours of airtime is planned with the participation of correspondents, commentators, and invited experts. A daily video digest titled 'Olympics in 500 seconds' will also be released, as well as thematic programs on Radio Promin.

Winter Olympics 2026: opening and Ukrainian team

The official opening of the Games will take place on February 6 at 20:40 Kyiv time. The first competitions will start on February 4. The opening ceremony will be commented by sports journalist Vitaliy Volochay and editor-in-chief of Public Culture Kateryna Yakovlenko.

Let us remind you that Ukraine will be represented at the Olympics-2026 by 46 athletes in 11 sports. The largest number of athletes has been declared in biathlon and luge, with 10 each, and in freestyle skiing - nine. The main medal expectations are associated with ski acrobatics and biathlon.
