Operation Vivaldi: Ukrainian Military Pushes Forward

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Ukrainian defense forces are making steady progress in northern Donetsk as part of Operation Vivaldi. Over the past week, troops have advanced along the Lyman axis, successfully reclaiming several settlements including:

  • Serednie
  • Koroviy Yar
  • Novoselivka
  • Yarova
  • Oleksandrivka
  • Ray-Oleksandrivka

This operation is currently in its initial phase, involving units from the Third Army Corps alongside other elements of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

Russian troops are reportedly suffering heavier losses than anticipated, responding by deploying special forces units to this sector in an attempt to halt the Ukrainian advance. However, Third Army Corps Chief of Staff Petro Horbatenko describes the enemy forces here as “broken and disorganized.”

“The adversary in this sector is shattered and in disarray,” Petro Horbatenko stated.

He added that Russian attempts to plug breaches are resulting in heavy casualties without any significant gains.

Combat Tactics and Battlefield Developments

Russian forces continue to rely on massed frontal assaults and extensive missile and bomb strikes targeting major towns such as Izium, Balakliia, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk. Horbatenko noted:

“Their tactics remain unchanged-relentless human-wave assaults combined with heavy strikes against rear areas.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops have successfully neutralized infiltration points within an area of 75 square kilometers and liberated an additional 10 square kilometers.

In August, Ukrainian forces recaptured 2 square kilometers of forest terrain southwest of Zapadne near Kupiansk in Kharkiv region. Following this, they continue pushing westward from Dvorichna. Fighting also persists in Dnipropetrovsk region, where several settlements have been retaken, though the Dachne area remains occupied.

“Progress continues weekly,” Horbatenko said, promising further updates on operational achievements soon. He emphasized that initial figures are expected to grow as the campaign advances. Currently, Ukrainian forces maintain an active offensive, aiming to liberate more territory from occupying forces.

The frontline remains highly contested as Ukraine’s strategic initiative drives ongoing offensive operations. The recapture of villages along the Lyman direction holds significant tactical value, potentially influencing the conflict’s trajectory and regional stability. At the same time, Russian troops are fiercely defending their positions, underscoring the intense struggle for control over key areas. Observers should monitor developments closely, as the situation remains fluid and subject to rapid change based on actions by both sides.

As Ukrainian forces maintain their momentum in Donetsk, similar advancements have been reported in other regions. Notably, significant progress has been confirmed in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk areas, highlighting a broader trend in the Ukrainian military's operations.
