Night strikes on Russian targets

According to ХВИЛЯ: Volodymyr Zelensky and the General Staff of the UAF confirmed information about night strikes on Russian facilities, including:

  • Saratov Oil Refinery
  • Engels Military Airfield
  • Ludino Oil Depot in the Kaluga Region
  • Launch site for strike drones in the Navlya area of Bryansk

As a result of the attacks on the refinery and the airfield, fires occurred. It is worth noting that Saratov is located over 600 km from the front line.

Strategic goals of the strikes

Among the targets of the strike were strategic facilities that are of significant importance for Russia's defense industry. The Saratov refinery, one of the largest oil refineries in the Volga region, has a processing capacity of about 7 million tons of oil per year and supplies fuel for the Russian army. The Engels military airfield is home to Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, which regularly launch missiles at Ukraine. A fire has also been reported at the airfield.

Another target was the tank farm of the Ludino oil depot in Ludino, Kaluga region, which is used for the storage and supply of fuel and lubricants for Russian troops. Additionally, the strike also hit the storage, preparation, and launch site for strike UAVs in the Navlya area of Bryansk.

Volodymyr Zelensky: 'We continue to apply our long-range strikes against Russian targets that are working for war and financing aggression.'

Zelensky also emphasized the importance of these strikes, stating: 'Last night in the Russian city of Saratov, located over 600 kilometers from the front line, two strategic facilities were struck: the Saratov refinery and the Engels military airfield.' He thanked Ukrainian soldiers: 'Thank you to all the warriors of the Defense Forces of Ukraine who are expanding our long-range capabilities and providing precise results. We are bringing the war back to where it came from.'

These strikes are a continuation of military actions that occurred earlier, particularly on August 1, when the Defense Forces struck enemy drone command points in the Kursk region, as well as in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhia. Details of the latest strikes were disclosed by the General Staff of the UAF in their Telegram channel.

The recent strikes on Russian facilities indicate the increasing range and accuracy of Ukrainian military actions. Hitting strategic targets can significantly impact the supply of resources for the Russian army and reduce its combat capability. These events underscore the importance of the information campaign accompanying military operations, as well as Ukraine's efforts to regain control over the situation at the front, despite the distance from the battlefield.

These recent strikes are part of a broader strategy aimed at crippling Russia's military capabilities. For instance, the attack on the Ryazan oil refinery was one of several key targets hit by Ukrainian forces overnight, highlighting the ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply lines for the Russian military.
