Foiled storming attempt through gas pipe in Sumy region
Захисники України зупинили атаку російських військ через газопровід у Сумській області, знищивши шість нападників.

Operation on the Sumy Front

According to Главком: Russian troops attempted a covert movement using a gas pipeline on the Sumy front, but soldiers from the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected and neutralized them. A group of six occupiers tried to approach defensive positions, but the assault was thwarted. According to reports, the first invader was taken out by an FPV drone, after which the remaining group was hit by artillery in an open area. Survivors sought cover among trees but were eliminated using weapon systems, including the Vampire. As a result, the entire group was completely destroyed.

Operation Details

Details of the operation reveal that the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade is actively operating on the Sumy front. This is not the first instance of Russian forces using gas infrastructure for unauthorized movement. In April 2026, 29 occupiers attempted an assault through a gas pipeline, and in 2025, Russian troops also tried to break through to Sudzha via a gas pipeline. It is known that in September, Ukrainian forces withdrew from the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region.

It is worth recalling that in early 2024, Russians used pipelines for infiltration behind Ukrainian lines as part of the "Kanaliya" operation in Avdiivka. At that time, the enemy aimed to reach the Tsarska Okhota area through underground utilities. The elimination of the occupier group in the Sumy region underscores the proactive stance of Ukrainian forces in countering Russian aggression.

Serviceman Viktor Petrovych of the 77th Separate Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine commented on the situation: 'They were detected and destroyed in the field while still approaching. The first was eliminated by an FPV drone. The subsequent group was hit by artillery in an open area as they tried to disperse. Survivors of the strikes attempted to hide among trees but were neutralized by weapon systems, including the renowned Vampire. The outcome-a completely foiled assault and the destruction of the entire group-was achieved by the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade.'

This event highlights the active role of Ukrainian troops in countering Russian aggression, particularly through the use of advanced technologies like FPV drones for detecting and eliminating the enemy. The Russian military's use of gas infrastructure for attacks reflects their attempts to find new ways to bypass defensive positions, indicating constant tactical changes on both sides. This incident may influence future military strategies and actions of Ukrainian forces in the region.

The recent operation in the Sumy region highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian forces against Russian tactics. This incident is reminiscent of a previous engagement where the 80th Brigade effectively countered a Russian assault, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of Ukrainian troops in the face of evolving threats. Understanding these encounters provides valuable insights into the broader conflict dynamics.
