Building the Future of Healthcare: The Success Story of Zviahel Multidisciplinary Hospital

According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Zviahel Multidisciplinary Hospital has undergone a major transformation, restructuring its admissions unit and launching a modern emergency department. The hospital has strengthened its surgical, trauma, and stroke care services while upgrading its diagnostic capabilities. In 2023, a comprehensive rehabilitation unit opened, providing care to over 1,700 patients-most of whom are military personnel. A Mental Health Center is scheduled to open in 2025, and more than 6,000 people have already sought its services.

Hospital Statistics and Infrastructure

Each year, the hospital serves approximately 165,000 residents, admits over 20,000 inpatients, and performs more than 7,000 surgeries-over 1,500 of which are emergency procedures. The stroke unit treats nearly 700 patients annually, with rehabilitation beginning within 24 to 48 hours. The facility also conducts over 1.1 million lab tests per year.

The hospital is equipped to operate autonomously during power outages, with backup generators, a solar power station, its own well, and two shelters. One shelter includes an operating block and an intensive care unit, enhancing safety for both patients and staff.

Construction is currently underway on a new surgical wing, and a 30-bed rehabilitation center is in the design phase.

“We are not just building new facilities. We are creating a system where a person can get modern diagnostics, complex treatment, rehabilitation, and psychological support all in one place,” said Vasyl Borys.

This is another example of a medical institution that, thanks to a strong team, effective management, and a focus on patient needs, is transforming the quality of healthcare.

Zviahel Multidisciplinary Hospital serves as a key model for modernizing medical facilities in Ukraine, especially relevant amid current challenges. The expansion of services-particularly in rehabilitation and mental health-highlights the growing need for a comprehensive approach to healthcare that addresses both physical and psychological patient well-being. Upgrading the hospital’s infrastructure and technology can significantly improve access to and quality of medical care, especially during wartime and post-war recovery.

As healthcare facilities across Ukraine adapt to the ongoing challenges, the recent visit by top officials to assess the situation in the Odesa region highlights the importance of continuous improvement in medical services. Similar to the advancements at Zviahel Multidisciplinary Hospital, where innovative approaches are reshaping patient care, this assessment underscores the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
