Poland has stopped free housing for refugees: who has exceptions
Starting from November 1, 2025, the Polish government implemented significant changes to the conditions for placing Ukrainian refugees. This was the result of updated legislation on assistance to Ukrainian citizens. Now, Ukrainian citizens cannot reside for free in state collective accommodation centers if they have a PESEL UKR number.
Poland has stopped accommodating refugees from Ukraine in collective centers and has introduced payment for children. This information was published by the Yavp.pl portal.
However, there are exceptions for socially vulnerable groups. These include persons with disabilities, women over 60, and men over 65 who do not receive a Polish pension, as well as pregnant women, young mothers, and single mothers with three or more children.
Also important is the procedure for obtaining housing in the centers and new payment rules for Ukrainians who do not belong to the preferential categories.
Ukrainians who lived in the centers until the end of October must pay 15 zlotys per day starting from November 1. In addition, voivodes have been authorized to immediately evict residents for serious violations of the rules, such as drugs on the premises or violence.
For detailed information and accommodation, contact the voivodeship offices in your area.
