Day of Dignity and Freedom: how two revolutions changed Ukraine
According to Міністерство інфраструктури: Today, on November 21, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Dignity and Freedom - a date that reminds us of two key events in our recent history. Nine years after the start of the Orange Revolution in 2004, the Revolution of Dignity began in 2013. Both revolutions testify to the desire of Ukrainians to defend their dignity, integrity, and right to self-determination.
In 2004, mass protests took place due to the falsification of the presidential election results, after which Viktor Yushchenko emerged as the winner. Nine years later, in 2013, protests began due to the government's refusal to sign an agreement with the European Union. After the violent dispersal of protesters, support for Viktor Yanukovych's pro-Russian regime waned, and the protests led to a change of power in Ukraine.
This holiday reminds us of the importance of freedom and personal dignity. We must remember that the freedom and responsibility of each of us help preserve our statehood and build a future in a free country.
