Ground-based robotic systems complete 66,300 missions for Ukraine's Defense Forces

Amid the ongoing war, Ukraine is rapidly scaling up unmanned platforms to reduce risks to its troops. According to the Ministry of Defense, these systems have carried out 66,300 missions since the start of 2026, including logistics runs and evacuations. With the ability to haul payloads of 200–300 kilograms, the platforms are helping units move supplies and recover casualties while reducing the danger to personnel.

Procurement and modernization

This year, soldiers ordered UGVs worth nearly UAH 1.9 billion through the eBaly program on the Brave1 Market. More than 22,000 units have been contracted since January, almost twice the total for all of last year. The Ministry of Defense has sharply increased both its requirements and its purchases to expand the use of UGVs across the front. In June 2026 alone, military users placed orders for drones, ground robots, and electronic-warfare systems worth over UAH 5 billion on Brave1 Market, setting a monthly record for the eBaly program.

Brave1 regularly tests UGVs in conditions designed to mirror real combat. That approach lets developers measure how well their systems perform, fix shortcomings, and incorporate feedback from service members so the technology matches front-line needs, according to the Ministry of Defense.

The first UGV operator training schools were certified last year, and operator positions are listed on army.gov.ua.

The growing use of ground robotic systems highlights Ukraine's push to bring cutting-edge technology into military operations and strengthen the overall capability of its Defense Forces.

As the role of UGVs expands, Ukraine's military is adapting to modern battlefield demands. These systems not only limit risks to troops but also speed up operations and improve responsiveness. Over the long term, adopting such technology can reinforce the country's defense capacity.
