A Record 16,600 Missions Completed by Ukrainian Robots on the Frontline in June
Ukraine’s Defense Forces Ramp Up Robotic Operations
According to Главком: In June 2023, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out over 16,600 logistics and evacuation missions using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports a steady monthly increase in mission counts, alongside the launch of the eBaly motivation program and plans to expand robot procurement by 2026. This surge reflects a broader push to integrate advanced technology into frontline operations.
Over the first six months of the year, UGV missions saw significant growth. January recorded 7,511 missions, followed by 7,960 in February, 9,072 in March, 11,028 in April, 14,059 in May, and a jump to 16,676 in June. Compared to May, June’s UGV usage rose by 18.6%, and it more than doubled-up 122%-from January. Since the start of 2024, UGVs have completed over 66,300 tasks.
The eBaly Initiative and Future Plans
Through the eBaly program, more than 400 combat units have gained access to cutting-edge technologies, boosting motivation across the force. These units have ordered equipment worth over 33 billion hryvnias, including more than 500,000 drones. The Defense Procurement Agency has contracted over 22,000 ground drones.
As of mid-May, units had received over 1,000 UGVs via the DOT-Chain Defence system, valued at more than 487 million hryvnias. For the first half of 2026, the Ministry of Defense plans to approve 67 new ground robot models for service and contract an additional 25,000 units.
“Every mission a robot performs instead of a soldier is a life potentially saved.”
Mykhailo Fedorov
The Ministry of Defense aims to transition up to 100% of frontline logistics to robotic solutions, with the goal of improving efficiency and reducing risks for personnel.
The growing use of UGVs signals a technological transformation in Ukraine’s defense sector, one that could reshape battlefield outcomes. By steadily ramping up procurement and deploying new systems, Ukraine is not only enhancing its military capabilities but also safeguarding its troops by minimizing exposure to danger. This shift may also boost unit morale, as technology helps lower physical casualties among service members.
