Trump Administration Sues Harvard University

According to Главком: The U.S. Department of Justice, under the Trump administration, has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University. The suit stems from Harvard's refusal to fully comply with a federal investigation into its admissions policies, which the Justice Department suspects may involve racially discriminatory practices. This legal action highlights the ongoing national debate over affirmative action in higher education. Harvard has countered by calling the lawsuit an excessive intrusion into the affairs of a private institution and has vowed to mount a legal defense.

The lawsuit was triggered after Harvard declined to grant investigators complete access to internal documents related to its student admissions process. The Justice Department is seeking a court order to compel the university's cooperation. Previously, the White House had demanded a $1 billion settlement from Harvard to resolve these investigations. The Trump administration has also threatened to withhold federal funding from the university over issues including pro-Palestinian demonstrations, transgender policies, and campus diversity initiatives.

Harvard to Study Reconstruction of University in Irpin

In a separate initiative, Harvard plans to study the reconstruction of a university in Irpin, Ukraine, which was damaged during the Russian occupation. The American institution will examine this rebuilding effort as a potential model for sustainable development and the recovery of Ukrainian communities in the post-war period. From October 2025 to May 2026, participants in a dedicated course will focus specifically on the topic of rebuilding the Irpin university.

The Justice Department's involvement in university admissions policy underscores the continued relevance of racial equality in education and society. The lawsuit against Harvard could set a significant precedent with far-reaching implications for other educational institutions employing similar admissions practices. Furthermore, Harvard's academic interest in the Irpin reconstruction project demonstrates a form of international solidarity and support for Ukraine during its post-war recovery efforts.
