On September 4, the Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of Saint Vavilo according to the new calendar. Saint Vavilo was a prominent Christian figure of the 3rd century. He served as the bishop of Syrian Antioch and was martyred in 250 AD during the reign of Emperor Decius. Vavilo was considered a symbol of resilience and faith, and his martyrdom solidified the faith against persecution. On this day, folk beliefs indicate that signs can predict future weather. For example, a clear sunny day promises a warm autumn, while the quick shedding of leaves and low-hanging cobwebs indicate a harsh winter. Significant indicators may also include the number of sparrows in the trees, nuts in the forest, and high anthills.
