On January 1, 2026, the Kyiv Region welcomed the New Year with significant freezing temperatures, with the lowest recorded in the village of Piskivka, where the thermometer dropped to -14.9 °C. Additional data show that in Bila Tserkva the temperature was -14.1 °C, in Fastiv -13.6 °C, and in Myronivka -11.7 °C. In Kyiv, the temperature reached -10.1 °C. The warmest readings were observed in Baryshivka and Yahotyn, where the temperature was at -7.8 °C.

The meteorological situation in the Kyiv Region on January 1, 2026, was marked by record-freezing temperatures, which significantly contrasts with previous years. For instance, in 2021 and 2022, the temperature on January 1 exceeded 5 °C, while in 2023, freezing temperatures around 0 °C were observed. In 2024, temperatures fluctuated from 0 °C to 5 °C, and in 2025 it was around 1 °C.

Radiation Background and Its Impact

Regarding the radiation background, it remained within natural limits. In Piskivka, the radiation background was 9 µR/h, in Kyiv - 12 µR/h, and in Chernobyl - 19 µR/h. The normal radiation background for these areas is up to 30 µR/h, indicating a safe situation for residents.
