Attacks on Naftogaz Infrastructure in 2025
The year 2025 set a grim record for assaults on Naftogaz infrastructure, as Russian forces carried out 229 attacks on the company's facilities. This figure is the highest of the previous three years, during which the number of attacks was significantly lower. The most severe period for Naftogaz was October 2025, when 25 combined attacks on the company's infrastructure were recorded.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has conducted 401 attacks on Naftogaz assets. In total, from 2022 onwards, over 1,700 munitions have been used against the company's infrastructure, with 1,399 of those deployed in 2025 alone. These attacks have caused significant damage to Naftogaz's assets and equipment. For instance, on the night of February 8, 2025, Russian forces attacked Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava region with drones, and shelling continued in the Poltava and Sumy regions on February 9.
As Serhiy Koretskyi noted, '2025 was unprecedented in the scale of attacks on our infrastructure – the intensity of the shelling was higher than in the previous years of the war.'
This situation underscores the immense challenges Naftogaz faces in operating during the war. The surge in attacks on its infrastructure in 2025 reflects an escalation in hostilities and the sustained pressure Russian forces are applying to Ukraine's energy sector. These circumstances threaten not only the company's security but also the country's overall energy stability, which could impact Ukraine's economy and social conditions. Naftogaz is a state-owned company critical to Ukraine's energy supply and economic resilience.
In the face of such aggression, it is vital that Naftogaz continues its efforts to ensure gas supply, as this is critical for maintaining the energy infrastructure and the livelihoods of the population.
