Ukraine Implements Scheduled Power Outages from February 24: What Consumers Should Expect

З 24 лютого в Україні розпочинаються планові відключення електроенергії: важливі зміни для споживачів.

Power Outages in Ukraine

Starting February 24, most regions of Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly power outages and capacity restrictions for industrial consumers. These measures are a direct consequence of ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure, which continue to severely damage the national power grid. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the Russian Federation is likely to continue targeting Ukraine's energy sector even after the winter period ends. The country's energy system has been under relentless assault since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.

Preparing for the Next Heating Season

The Cabinet of Ministers, in coordination with regional state administration heads and energy company representatives, has begun preparing the energy system for the next heating season. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has instructed the State Energy Supervision Authority to conduct inspections regarding the power outages. For citizens forced to relocate due to emergencies, the government is implementing a financial support mechanism in the form of one-time, interest-free loans.

Since February 2, entrepreneurs have been able to access a government energy support package, which includes payments to private entrepreneurs of up to 15,000 hryvnias and zero-interest loans for purchasing energy equipment. The government is also expanding programs to support energy autonomy for apartment buildings and private homes.

Ukrenergo urges consumers to find information about the timing and extent of outages for specific addresses on the official websites of their regional power distribution companies (oblenergos). When electricity is available according to the schedule, consumers are advised to use it sparingly.

The implementation of scheduled power outages in Ukraine is a critical step given the continued military attacks on the country's energy infrastructure.

These measures aim to preserve the stability of the national energy system and ensure energy security. Authorities are also taking steps to support the population and businesses affected by the consequences of the energy crisis by implementing financial aid and energy autonomy programs.
