86 years since the birth of Volodymyr Ivanovych Pavlyshyn
January 3, 2026 marks 86 years since the birth of Volodymyr Ivanovych Pavlyshyn, a prominent mineralogist who made significant contributions to mineralogy and geology in Ukraine. Volodymyr Pavlyshyn was born on January 3, 1940, in the village of Zashkovychi, Lviv region. He gained recognition as a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences in 1981 and became a professor in 2000.
Scientific activity and achievements
Pavlyshyn served as the president of the Ukrainian Mineralogical Society from 1991 to 2001, and from 2006 to 2011 was its honorary president. In 2005, he received the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, and in 2006 he was elected as a member of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Pavlyshyn became the founder of a new scientific direction - ecological mineralogy, as well as the founder of biomineralogy in Ukraine.
The scientist is the author of over 500 publications, including:
- 24 scientific monographs,
- 4 textbooks,
- 5 teaching aids,
- 9 scientific reference works,
- 2 historical works.
One notable work is 'Typomorphism of quartz, micas, and feldspars in endogenous formations', published in 1983. Volodymyr Pavlyshyn left a significant mark on the development of mineralogy in Ukraine, and his scientific activity continues to influence this field.
