Today, December 9, marks the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide. This day is dedicated to honoring the memory of those who became victims of this horrific crime, as well as encouraging the world community to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Genocide is the most heinous crime against humanity, occurring when there is an attempt to completely or partially destroy a specific group of people based on their nationality, ethnic or racial background, or religious beliefs. This concept was first articulated in 1944 by lawyer Raphael Lemkin.

Actions that may be recognized as genocide include deliberately planned killings, physical and psychological torture, as well as creating conditions aimed at destroying a specific group of people. This day allows us to remember the tragic history and recognize the importance of protecting human rights in every corner of the world.
