Ukrainians residing abroad can now apply for a registration number of the taxpayer card, or TIN, through a simplified procedure. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Tax Service expanded the service in the 'e-Consul' system as of July 30. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

TIN abroad: who can apply

The service is available to all Ukrainian citizens abroad who have a valid identity document. Previously, under the pilot project TIN could only be issued for children under the age of 18 upon the request of one of the parents.

Citizens aged 14 and older must personally visit the nearest embassy or consulate of Ukraine. They cannot submit an application for TIN through their own cabinet 'e-Consul'.

Online application is possible for a representative acting under a notarized power of attorney or a document about the powers of a legal representative. This may include a guardian, custodian, adoptive parent, or foster caregiver.

How to obtain a TIN through 'e-Consul' and how much it costs

A representative can submit an application through their electronic cabinet in the 'e-Consul' system or contact the diplomatic establishment. The online service is free of charge.

If documents are submitted through an embassy or consulate, a fee for automated data processing is charged: 40 USD or 37 EUR. The current list of documents and the procedure for processing are published on the MFA portal.

A TIN is required for interaction with state registers and for using an increasing number of digital services. For Ukrainians abroad, this reduces some bureaucratic barriers, although adult applicants still need to visit the consulate for the first issuance.

Let us remind you, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is launching a gender course for diplomats.
