In Ukraine, an increase in prices for several popular products is expected by the end of the year. Analysts explain: inflation, logistics, energy resources, and currency fluctuations are influencing this. The fastest price increases are predicted closer to the winter holidays, when there is traditionally an increase in demand for seasonal products. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.

What drives prices up

According to the analyst of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, Maksym Hopka, several factors are simultaneously influencing the market. For perishable goods, logistics is crucial, while storage costs affect vegetables, and imports depend on the exchange rate and the situation in supplying countries. Prices may fluctuate between regions, but not critically.

The expert clarifies: where the harvest is larger, the price is slightly lower, but this is less noticeable in the dairy and meat categories, which are determined by the retail market. According to his assessment, seasonal vegetables will rise in price first, as they are currently sold with minimal markup. At the end of the year, an increase in the price of dairy products is possible due to reduced milk production, and before the holidays, for meat products due to increased demand.

Which products will rise in price the most before Christmas

According to the analyst, prices may rise by the end of the year for:

  • potatoes — currently 10-12 UAH/kg

  • onions — 7-13 UAH/kg

  • tomatoes — 90-100 UAH/kg

  • cucumbers — 90-110 UAH/kg

  • meat: beef 350-400 UAH/kg, pork 260-350 UAH/kg, fillet 230-245 UAH/kg

  • milk 52-60 UAH/900 ml, sour cream 48-55 UAH/350 g, butter 100-120 UAH/200 g

  • eggs — 73.5-77.5 UAH/dozen

  • apples — 20-30 UAH/kg.

Cabbage, carrots, and beets are expected to remain relatively stable as long as there are reserves of the harvest.

“If there are no storage problems,” — emphasized Hopka.

Economists expect more accurate calculations in mid-November, but advise preparing for the traditional pre-holiday increase.
