Christmas Tree Markets Before Christmas: Prices Starting from 154 Hryvnias and Strict Fines for Illegal Logging

Різдвяні ярмарки: Підготовка до свята з ялинками від 154 гривень та суворими штрафами за незаконну вирубку дерев.

Christmas Tree Markets in Ukraine

Before Christmas, Christmas tree markets are actively taking place in Ukraine, where Ukrainians can purchase trees of various price categories. Budget options start from 154 Hryvnias, while the average price for a meter of pine or spruce ranges from 500 to 750 Hryvnias. For those looking for something special, prices for 'luxury trees' can reach 3,000-4,000 Hryvnias for trees or pines up to 2.5-3 meters tall. Imported fluffy trees in the high segment cost up to 2,500 Hryvnias per meter.

Responsibility for Illegal Logging

In addition to tree prices, it is also important to note that strict fines for illegal logging of coniferous trees are in effect in Ukraine. The administrative fine for citizens for illegal logging is:

  • from 510 to 1,020 Hryvnias
  • for officials - from 2,550 to 5,100 Hryvnias

The fine for non-compliance with the rules for selling or purchasing plants can be up to 1,700 Hryvnias. For illegal logging or sale of forest products, criminal liability is provided, which may include imprisonment for up to 3 years or deprivation of liberty for up to 7 years.

Expert Mykola Kovalenko noted: 'For such a top segment, you will have to pay a considerable amount of money. Prices reach 3,000-4,000 UAH for a tree or pine up to 2.5-3 m tall.'

Thus, Ukrainians have the opportunity to choose from various tree options and should be aware of the responsibilities for illegal actions in the forest.

Christmas markets in Ukraine not only offer a wide range of trees for any budget but also emphasize the importance of adhering to legislation regarding forest conservation. Given the rising prices of trees, Ukrainians can remain within the law by purchasing legally grown plants, which in turn supports the ecological stability of the country. It is important for consumers to be aware of their role in preserving nature and to avoid illegal actions that could lead to serious consequences.
