Launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max
On September 9, 2026, Apple revealed the latest additions to its smartphone lineup: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Marking a first for the company, these models introduce an adjustable camera aperture, enabling users to modify the lens opening to control the amount of light reaching the sensor. This innovation significantly enhances photo quality across varying lighting conditions.
Camera Specifications
The main camera on the iPhone 18 Pro boasts a 48-megapixel sensor and offers four distinct aperture settings:
- f/1.48 – ideal for low-light environments
- f/1.8 – suited for standard lighting
- f/2.8 – also for typical lighting scenarios
- f/4 – provides increased depth of field
Equipped with six adjustable blades, the aperture mechanism allows photographers greater creative flexibility. Greg Joswiak commented on the feature, stating:
“The iPhone 18 Pro makes it effortless for anyone to capture stunning photos and videos with its variable aperture, delivering enhanced versatility for creators and more precise control for professionals.”
Experts have responded positively to the new variable aperture. PetaPixel, after reviewing 1,000 test images, highlighted the sharpest results at f/2.8. However, images taken at f/1.48 tend to have softer edges, and at f/4, diffraction can reduce detail. The aperture also impacts depth of field, with a shallower focus area at f/1.48 and a wider zone of sharpness at f/4. Jaron Schneider reflected on the technology, saying:
“Initially, we were quite skeptical about the variable aperture, but it has changed my perspective, especially for video.”
Compared to the previous iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max deliver substantial upgrades. Pricing in Ukraine is as follows:
- iPhone 18 Pro (256 GB) – 77,999 UAH
- iPhone 18 Pro Max – 84,999 UAH
For context, the iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB version is priced around 60,000 to 64,000 UAH, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max 256 GB ranges between 66,000 and 70,000 UAH.
The introduction of a variable aperture elevates the appeal of the new iPhones, particularly for photographers and videographers seeking superior image quality under diverse lighting. With the noticeable price increase over previous models, Apple appears to be solidifying its position in the premium smartphone market by delivering innovative technology tailored to the demands of discerning users.
In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple also introduced several other innovative products that enhance its ecosystem. The new AirPods 5 and Apple Watch Series 12 feature advanced functionalities that complement the smartphone's capabilities, making the entire lineup more appealing to tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.
