Military Procurement of Ground-Based Robotic Systems
In 2024, the Defense Procurement Agency under Ukraine's Ministry of Defense contracted more than 22,000 ground robots for the armed forces—nearly double the amount from the previous year. Every single one of these ground robotic complexes (GRCs) was manufactured domestically, with the vast majority serving logistical purposes. Following logistics-focused units, engineering GRCs rank second in number, with combat GRCs coming in third.
Thousands of these robots have already been delivered to military units. For instance, 2,069 units were supplied through the state-run weapons marketplace DOT-Chain Defence. During June 2024 alone, ground robotic complexes completed over 16,600 missions. These operations included:
- cargo transportation,
- medical evacuation of the wounded,
- and direct combat assignments.
Authorities plan to procure even more GRCs before the end of the year.
Growth of Domestic Industry
The large-scale acquisition of ground robotic complexes highlights the increasing importance of technology in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
