Increase in the Intensity of Attacks on Port Infrastructure
In 2025, the intensity of Russian attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure doubled, with 90 combined strikes recorded against ports. In the Odesa region, there have been about 800 air raid alerts since the beginning of the year, with a total duration exceeding 30 days. The government is actively working to protect port workers and strengthen their security.
Measures for Ensuring Safety
In order to ensure safety in the ports of Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, over 50 mobile shelters have been installed. Additionally, more than 30 stationary shelters are operational, providing protection for workers during air raid alerts.
Oleksiy Kuleba, a government representative, noted that 'the presence of shelters directly on the premises of the ports is a matter of people's lives.'
He also emphasized that 'we are working on protection every day together with the military and partners.'
Protecting port infrastructure workers is a priority for the government, as the further increase in attacks could pose a threat to the safety of those working in this critical sector. Additionally, dozens of protective structures established by private port operators also contribute to enhancing safety levels. All these measures reflect a systemic approach to ensuring security in Ukraine's port sector amid increased external threats.
The rise in the intensity of attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure indicates an escalation of military actions by Russia, making the protection of ports critically important for the country's economy. Ports are not only strategic facilities for the transportation of goods but are also vital for ensuring Ukraine's food security. Government measures aimed at strengthening security demonstrate a commitment to preserving jobs and supporting economic stability in the face of military aggression.
