Increase in the accident rate of electrical networks in Kyiv
The accident rate of electrical networks in Kyiv has increased by over 33% due to stabilization shutdown schedules and sharp load spikes. The most problems are observed on low-voltage networks, caused by the simultaneous switching on of energy consumers after the restoration of electricity supply.
The number of emergency situations involving equipment in the capital has increased compared to October of last year. The General Director of DTEK Kyiv Electric Networks, Denys Bondar, noted:
“After the restoration of electricity, people often turn on all available appliances.” - Denys Bondar
This significantly increases the load on the network, which, in turn, leads to emergency situations.
Recommendations to reduce accidents
To reduce the risk of accidents, specialists recommend adhering to certain rules:
- During stabilization shutdowns, it is advisable to disconnect all energy-intensive devices from the network.
- Turn off the lights in rooms where no one is present.
- After electricity is restored, it is advisable to wait at least 30 minutes before turning on powerful equipment.
- It is not recommended to start all powerful equipment at the same time; it is better to use devices one by one to avoid overloading the electrical networks.
The increase in the accident rate of electrical networks in Kyiv underscores the importance of following specialists' recommendations, especially in conditions of unstable electricity supply. Considering the mentioned rules can help prevent further accidents and maintain stability in the city's energy system. The situation indicates the need for consumer measures to ensure the safety and reliability of electricity supply.
