Starting in 2026, Mothers with Large Families Will Receive a Higher Pension Supplement

Monthly Pension Bonus for Parents Raising Multiple Children

A new monthly supplement to pensions has been introduced by the state for parents with many children. Eligibility is granted to mothers who have given birth to and raised at least five children up to the age of six. In the event of the mother's death or loss of parental rights, the father becomes entitled to this additional payment. Adopted children are also counted when determining eligibility for the bonus.

This bonus is added on top of pensions received for old age, disability, long service, or loss of a breadwinner. The payment ranges from 35 to 40 percent of the subsistence minimum for individuals unable to work. As of January 1, 2026, the supplement will vary between 908.25 and 1,038.00 Ukrainian hryvnias. It is worth noting that pensions awarded for special merits are allocated within the limits of available budget funds.

How to Apply for the Supplement

To apply, individuals must submit a request to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) either in person or through their personal account on the PFU portal. The following documents need to be prepared:

  • original birth certificates for all children,
  • documents confirming the legal status of adoption (if applicable),
  • proof that the children were raised until the age of six.

Since the amount of the bonus is tied to the subsistence minimum, it is important to keep track of any changes to this figure.

The introduction of this bonus represents a significant step in supporting large families, who often face financial challenges.

The supplement's dependency on the subsistence minimum highlights the role of social policy in Ukraine and aims to improve the financial well-being of families raising many children. It may also encourage adoption and reinforce family values within society.

In addition to the new pension supplement for mothers raising large families, recent updates have also been made for military retirees, enhancing their financial support through increased allowances for dependents. This move reflects a broader effort by the government to bolster the welfare of families in various circumstances.
