Supplement for Military Pensioners

According to ХВИЛЯ: Military retirees who support disabled family members can now qualify for a monthly pension supplement. As of May 27, 2026, this allowance amounts to 1,297 hryvnias and 50 kopecks per dependent. The benefit is governed by Ukraine's Law 'On Pension Provision for Persons Released from Military Service and Certain Other Persons.'

Under this law, retired servicemen and women may receive extra payments for dependents who are eligible for survivor's pensions. Ilona Elizbaryan explained,

'each disabled family member is entitled to a pension supplement of 50% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work'

. As of May 27, 2026, the subsistence minimum stands at 2,595 hryvnias.

List of Eligible Disabled Family Members

The following disabled relatives can serve as the basis for receiving the supplement:

  • children, siblings, and grandchildren of the retiree under 18 years old;
  • older individuals who became disabled before reaching adulthood;
  • parents, wife, or husband who have reached retirement age or have a disability;
  • grandparents with no other relatives legally obligated to support them;
  • full-time students, cadets, pupils, and trainees at educational institutions up to age 23.

Entitlement to the supplement does not depend on the type of military pension. Applications can be submitted either online via the personal account on the Pension Fund's e-services portal or in person at a local Pension Fund office. The basic document package includes a passport, taxpayer registration card, and documents confirming the dependent's status, family ties, and financial support. To prove dependency, applicants must provide a certificate of shared residence from local authorities. If no such certificate is available, a court decision is required. Retirees must also demonstrate they are not employed by submitting a copy of their dismissal order or the latest entry in their employment record book.

This supplement for military retirees represents a key social measure to support those caring for disabled family members. It can significantly ease the financial burden on pensioners, who often face difficulties amid rising prices and economic challenges. The emphasis on accessible information and simplified application procedures highlights the importance of backing this segment of Ukraine's population.

In addition to the new pension supplement for military retirees, recent changes in Ukraine have broadened the scope of benefits available to pensioners. These enhancements include monthly allowances of up to 570 UAH and free public transport, which aim to alleviate financial burdens for older citizens.
