There are over 20,000 ATMs in Poland, but cash withdrawals do not always go smoothly. Even with funds available in the account, the ATM may reject the transaction due to established limits or technical restrictions. This is reported by InPoland.

Financial institutions limit withdrawal amounts for security and stable network operation reasons. Limits depend on the bank, card type, client settings, and the specific ATM. In most cases, the standard threshold for one transaction is around 5000 zlotys, although some banks allow withdrawals of up to 10,000 zlotys.

ATM in Poland: why cash withdrawals may be blocked

A transaction may be rejected if the daily or single limit set by the bank or the user is exceeded. The ATM will also not dispense cash if it runs out of cash or if only a limited number of banknotes are technically available. Usually, one ATM dispenses no more than 40 banknotes per transaction.

The minimum withdrawal amount in most cases is 50 zlotys. ATMs do not dispense coins, and banknotes of 10 or 20 zlotys are only available in certain combinations of sums.

Cash withdrawal limits in Polish banks and networks

Restrictions depend on the ATM operator and the bank that issued the card. The most common limits are as follows:

  • Euronet – up to 800 zlotys per transaction

  • Planet Cash – up to 1000 zlotys at a time, with the possibility of increasing for clients of partner banks

  • Santander Bank Polska – up to 1000 zlotys per transaction, daily limit up to 15,000 zlotys

  • Pekao – 6000 zlotys per day for standard cards, up to 15,000 zlotys for Gold

  • PKO BP – up to 20,000 zlotys per day

  • Millennium – basic daily limit of 2000 zlotys with the option to increase it to 20,000.

If you need to withdraw a significant amount, financiers recommend contacting the bank branch directly, where the transaction can be carried out without the risk of blocking.
