Banksy Confirms New London Sculpture: A Flag-Blinded Figure on a Pedestal

Нове мистецьке творіння в столиці: постать з зав'язаними очима піднята на п'єдестал.

Banksy’s Latest Installation in London

A new piece by the British street artist Banksy has appeared in central London. The installation was placed on a pedestal near The Mall, the ceremonial heart of the British capital. Banksy confirmed authorship by posting a video of the installation on his Instagram. The sculpture depicts a suited man seemingly stepping off the pedestal, his face obscured by a flag that creates a blinding effect. One of the figure’s legs hovers over the edge of the pedestal, emphasizing the work’s dynamic quality.

According to journalists, the piece stylistically echoes statues of King Edward VII, Florence Nightingale, and Sidney Herbert. Banksy uses Instagram as his sole method of authenticating his works, which adds to the mystery surrounding his art. It’s known that the pseudonym Banksy may hide the artist Robin Gunningham, a native of Bristol, England. Robin Gunningham began his career in Bristol in the 1990s, and since then his works have become iconic in contemporary street art.

Social and Political Themes in Banksy’s Art

This new installation once again highlights Banksy’s unique style and his ability to draw attention to social and political issues through art. The work’s location in central London, an area traditionally associated with royal history and cultural heritage, adds further significance. In this way, Banksy not only showcases his creativity but also raises questions about the role of traditional symbols in modern society.
