Barrier-free is when you can!
A completely barrier-free country doesn't appear overnight. But sometimes, it is enough to remove just one obstacle, and a whole path opens up for a person," says the ambassador of barrier-free policies, advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs on veteran policy, Dmytro Finashin.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Today we once again emphasize the daily, systemic changes that must work for everyone, regardless of health status or life circumstances.
A completely barrier-free country doesn't appear overnight. But sometimes, it is enough to remove just one obstacle, and a whole path opens up for a person," says the ambassador of barrier-free policies, advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs on veteran policy, Dmytro Finashin.
That's why the Ministry of Internal Affairs focuses on real solutions that change people's lives here and now.
More than 250 people with disabilities, including 115 active military servicemen and veterans, have already learned to drive adapted vehicles and received driver's licenses through the 'Barrier-Free Driving Schools' project.
Barrier-free communication is important even in critical moments. That's why the adapted 112 line already covers all regions of Ukraine. People with hearing impairments can call emergency services using sign language through video calls or SMS.
In addition, the department systematically helps veterans with rehabilitation, adaptation, and employment. A complete list of services that our heroes can receive is available on the 'MVA: Your Support' portal.
Accessibility of MIA's web resources
The MIA currently ranks among the agencies with the highest level of accessibility for its web resources. We make information understandable for everyone: we add subtitles, video instructions, and tools for communicating with online sign language interpreters.
Barrier-free is when you can!
Ukraine is actively developing a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities, enabling them to receive education, engage in activities, and use public services. Government initiatives, such as the 'Barrier-Free Driving Schools' and the adapted 112 line, are making life more comfortable and safer for people.
