The White House assured that there are no plans for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the near future. This information was shared by representatives of the American administration.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a fruitful phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. 'Therefore, an additional in-person meeting between the Secretary of State and the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry is not necessary, and there are no plans for a meeting between President Trump and President Putin in the near future,' said a representative in a statement.

The conversation between Rubio and Lavrov took place on October 20, during which they discussed the next steps following the meeting between Trump and Putin that occurred on October 16. Thus, the planned in-person meeting this week between the American Secretary of State and the Russian minister has been postponed.

Reason for postponing the meeting plans

According to CNN reports, planning for the meeting between Trump and Putin was postponed due to disagreement over a possible resolution of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A representative of the Trump administration also emphasized that both sides are not yet ready for negotiations.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov noted that there are currently no specific agreements regarding the organization of a meeting of the leaders.

After a two-hour conversation with Vladimir Putin on October 16, Donald Trump announced his intention to meet in person in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. However, this choice of venue for the negotiations received a negative reaction from European politicians.

According to the latest reports, the meeting between the US president and the Russian leader may be postponed due to differences in views on the situation in Ukraine and the lack of readiness of the parties for negotiations. The planned meeting appears irrelevant in the near future, indicating strained relations between the countries.
