FSB Agent Detained in Cherkasy Region

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has apprehended an agent of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Cherkasy region, who was collecting intelligence to facilitate new missile and drone attacks by the Russian Federation on the area. The suspect, an unemployed local resident, was recruited through the Telegram messaging platform.

According to the SBU, the agent monitored the positions of Ukrainian military forces and energy infrastructure. 'Following FSB instructions, the agent tracked the locations of Ukrainian troops and power facilities. It was determined that the Russian intelligence agency tasked its accomplice with conducting reconnaissance near an energy-generating plant, which the enemy was preparing to strike again. If potential targets were identified, the woman photographed them with geolocation data,' the SBU stated.

Legal Consequences and Additional Arrests

During searches, law enforcement seized a mobile phone and computer equipment containing evidence of her activities. The detainee has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers treason committed under martial law. The court ordered pretrial detention without the possibility of bail. If convicted, she faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

In a separate case, the SBU also arrested an unemployed woman from the village of Antonivka near Kherson. She is suspected of collaboration, supporting the occupation regime, and organizing a sham referendum during the capture of the Kherson region. The suspect could face up to 10 years in prison with property confiscation.

This incident highlights the ongoing threat of espionage and collaboration amid the war, particularly in regions directly vulnerable to Russian attacks. The detention of the FSB agent underscores the active efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement to identify and neutralize threats to national security. Information security and countering hostile elements remain critical priorities in Ukraine as the conflict continues.

This recent apprehension of an FSB agent in the Cherkasy region underscores the persistent risks of espionage within Ukraine. In a related case, another FSB operative was captured while directing missile strikes from a hotel in Kyiv.
